Ipe Brazilian Walnut Wood Cable Railings

This rich hardwood is an excellent choice for outdoor applications due to its resilience and beauty. Ipe naturally resists rot, insects, and various forms of wear-and-tear. Its durability makes it relatively low-maintenance while it’s appearance is a visual delight that dresses up any property. We obtain our wood from a Responsible Supplier. To learn more about what that means, take a look at this page.

AVERAGE ORDER: $75-95/LF (Varies depending on configuration)

Options:

  1. What Posts for your Ipe Top Rail? ALUMINUMROUND STAINLESS, or SQUARE STAINLESS?
  2. Which top rail dimensions are right for your project? Combine any of our Ipe Top Rails with aluminum posts using a Post-to-Post Rail Support or, for stainless steel posts, choose our Ipe 2×4 Top Rail.
  3. To complete your railing, you will also need Fittings and Cable Infill.

We also suggest using our IPE END GRAIN SEALANT and Penofin PENETRATING OIL TREATMENT for Ipe. End grain sealant will keep your beams from cracking or splitting, while the oil treatment will preserve the color and luster of this rich, beautiful wood.

Oil treatment is not necessary, as Ipe will remain strong even after years of use and the color will naturally fade to a soft silver as it takes in the sun’s UV rays. For property owners interested in this faded color and less upkeep, leaving your Ipe frame untreated is definitely an option. For those who wish to more actively maintain the appearance of their frame, however, we recommend oil treatment designed specifically for exotic hardwoods. We also suggest sweeping and hosing down your frame as needed.

NOTE: We no longer sell Ipe posts, however, our Batu Posts (IntermediateTerminal, and Undrilled) look very similar and are engineered for additional strength and durability.
