The Challenge
Scott’s half wall required a railing system that could be both low-profile and structurally strong. Standard post heights were too tall for the space, and cutting them by hand could lead to uneven or inconsistent results. He needed a railing system that could be custom-fabricated to a specific height and installed with secure top and bottom flanges — all while maintaining a clean, contemporary aesthetic.
The SC&R Solution
Our team engineered the perfect solution using natural powder-coated aluminum deck-mounted posts, custom-cut to 15 inches tall. These posts were fabricated using our professional laser cutting machines, which guarantee exact height tolerances and eliminate the rough edges or irregularities that often result from hand cutting.
Scott’s railing system included:
- 15″ custom laser-cut aluminum posts, precisely cut and powder-coated in a natural finish.
- 1/8″ diameter stainless steel cable infill, installed with through-post field swaged assemblies for strength and minimal visual obstruction.
- A wood top rail mounted on 2×4 base plates, which Scott personally installed to complete the look.
The mix of sleek aluminum and stainless cable paired beautifully with the warmth of Scott’s wood finishes, tying the entire loft together.
